Drinking Age A Huge Problem That Affects The Entire World

Today alcohol, is a huge problem that affects the entire world. In particular, in America it seemed a good idea to increase the legal drinking age to 21 years old, to lower accidents that may be caused by alcohol consumers. The issue is to understand if this decision actually helped, or if the USA should reconsider to lower the drinking age to 18 years old again. Making something illegal for such a long time, does actually preserve people to not be overtaken by it once it becomes permitted? Allowing them to get to know alcohol when they are younger, and learn how to control it, will actually help? These are the questions that arise when the drinking age in America is brought up. The drinking age was raised at 21 years old for some†¦show more content†¦This era ended just in 1933 when Congress passed the 21st Amendment, that gave to each state the power to regulate alcohol inside their borders.(LegalFlip, n.d.). During the Vietnam War, that lasted from 1959 to 1975, the legal drinking age issue arose again. The main point was that if people were able to go to war at 18 years old they should be allowed to drink too. For this reason, a lot of states stated 18 years old as the permitted drinking age. Around the 80s though, Organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, started to push for rising the drinking age. That was related to two different problems: drinking and driving, and studies that showed how brain is not completely formed until around 20 years old. As a result of this, Reagan signed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984, that stated 21 years old as the legal age for drinking. (Trex, 2008). Even if States didn’t need to necessarily to set it as a drinking age, if they weren’t doing it the government would have had removed 10% of annual federal highway funding from states that chose an age below 21. For this reason, everyone set 21 as the minimum drinking a ge. Studies Several studies support the decision National Minimum Drinking Age Act. Those studies are also the ones that in some way managed to keep this Act still active, even if a lot of people are asking for lowering the drinking age at 18
